Sunbrella® is enriching its Marine collection with a new eco-responsible range, Sunbrella Plus® Recycled, designed to meet current environmental challenges without compromising on performance or aesthetics.

A new era for marine fabrics

Sunbrella Plus Recycled is the first range of marine protection fabrics designed from recycled fibers from its own production scraps, sorted and repurposed locally in France. This new product is made of 100% Sunbrella acrylic and includes 33% recycled fibers. This innovative approach is fully in line with our environmental policy, which aims to reduce our carbon footprint while extending the lifespan of the fabrics.

Controlled and local recycling

At our 2 production sites in Northern France, textile waste — yarns, selvedges and scraps — is recovered, sorted by color, and then integrated into new production lines. This process gives a second life to hundreds of tons of material that would otherwise have been lost. Since the launch of the Recycle My Sunbrella program in 2023, more than 415 tons of acrylic waste have already been recycled, with an average saving of -24% CO₂ on recycled fabrics.

Design, performance and durability

The palette of nine new shades of Sunbrella Plus Recycled is inspired by the meeting of sky and sea: pastel shades, heathered effects and slub yarns give each fabric a unique and contemporary character. These aesthetic variations result directly from the recycling process and become an authentic visual signature of the range.

On a technical level, Sunbrella Plus Recycled combines virgin and recycled fibers thanks to an innovative weave: High Tenacity (HT) yarns in the weft guarantee dimensional stability and resistance equivalent to the classic version, while the warp includes up to 50% recycled fibers. This results in fabrics ideal for a multitude of marine applications — canopies, biminis, sun awnings — with impeccable durability over time.

Safety and respect for the environment

Concerned about the health of our users and the environment, we designed this new product without hazardous substances, in particular without PFAS, and we are certified compliant with OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 and GREENGUARD Gold standards. The treatments applied strictly comply with the European REACH regulation.

One step closer to the circular economy

With Sunbrella Plus Recycled, we are taking a new step in our sustainable commitment, reconciling design, technical performance and environmental responsibility — a concrete response to the expectations of the maritime market as well as those of demanding technical textile professionals.
