Inspired by the natural elements of flowers and the wind, French designer Élise Fouin has created spectacular fabric windmills to highlight the Sunbrella stand at Salone del Mobile.  Entitled ‘Fleurs du Vent’, these windmills hang from the ceiling and the walls, reflecting the gentle poetry of a perfect and pure world. Ecological energy also plays a role in Fouin’s work, as she draws design motifs from wind turbines, whose power and elegance are highlighted in her creations.

Using the ‘Velum’ range from the Sunbrella Window Collection, Fouin’s choice of colours for her ‘Fleurs du Vent’ centres around softer and pastel shades in half hue. The colours of the twisted bands of fabric used in her flowers are consistent with the idea that the wind is both a clean and gentle source of energy.

To create these pieces, Fouin took twisted strips of Sunbrella’s fabrics and stretched them over an invisible lacquered wire structure. When positioned in the installation itself, some of the windmills are fixed while others include a motor, drawing further parallels with the gentle movement of the wind as it flows through these structures

When speaking about her artwork, Fouin said, “As Sunbrella began its journey by offering outdoor fabrics, I wanted the setting to be based around nature and what it gives us. It is always a pleasure to work with Sunbrella as they allow me to reimagine a traditional product in a new and poetic way.”
